As usual, the construction activity in Milwaukee is beginning to increase as Spring approaches and we are there to report. These two images show some tuckpointing on the building at 751 N. Broadway. The work is being done by Holton Brothers out of Grafton, WI. Holton Brothers is a well known, top quality restoration contractor whose work extends all along the coast of Lake Michigan from Port Washington to Chicago. A family owned company with experience in the restoration, caulking, & waterproofing trades, Holton Brothers has been in business for over 30 years.
At this location during the latter part of the 19th Century was Adam Roth's Quiet House saloon. The saloon was the corner of what was called Newspapers Row. The 3rd floor was home to the Milwaukee Press Club. Still existing is the 222 East Mason St. Building which was the beginning of the Daily Journal later known as The Milwaukee Journal.
