Pabst Brewery Update

2323Documented (images taken on July 28, 2007) by Mark R. Bertieri of the Milwaukeestock.com staff a historical landmark on the Milwaukee skyline, the Pabst Brewery is undergoing a complete transformation. In a historical perspective a few of the distinctive features of this series of buildings are slowly being dismantled. From the noted Pabst labeled smokestack and the neon lit rotating sign to the brewing kettles and infrastructure. In a review of the renovation plans available on the Zilber LTD (the new owners) web site really does not provide much detail as to the historic restoration. I would hope that they will be take the past into account in some of the developments details. Please view our Pabst Brewery slideshow for current images.

Wadham Pagoda Gas Stations

Wadhams_gas_station_national_and_76In search of some of Milwaukee's past the Milwaukeestock.com team took off on a trek looking for an interesting piece of architectural history. We have updated our galleries with recent images of the pagoda shaped Wadham Oil & Grease Co. buildings. Going back to the 1930's the gas stations were very popular in the area. As time went by though some were moved and others dismantled for their unique parts. Below is a summary of our search.

Started at the North and 4th St. location, the Wadhams turned into (at least the latest tennant) Grant's Soul Food is still there but closed and the building is for sale. Could not find any Wadhams or parts of at 430 S. 2nd St, could not find any Wadhams or parts of at 15th and Becher. Struck gold at Lincoln and 27th, the building is there, closed, and now part of the Bargain Town Auto's empire. Wadhams at National and 76th St. is still there and in great shape, hard to believe there is no graffiti. The rumor of a roof of one at State Fair Park could not be verified (actually I forgot about that one). Click here for the images of the search and also click here to view the thread of comments regarding the situation.

Iroquois Boat Tour

1954The Milwaukeestock.com team accompanied with Michael from Michael's Den decided to extend our weekend and took a cruise on the tour boat Iroquois. The tour starting in the Milwaukee River at Clybourn St. and cruising out into Lake Michigan is actually pretty nice. The tour features looks at the Milwaukee Art Museum, Pier Wisconsin and Discovery World, the Summerfest grounds, the Port of Milwaukee, the World's Largest 4 Sided Clock, 2 lighthouses, and of course Milwaukee's skyline. We recommend the cruise for both visitors and local Milwaukeean's. Check out our Iroquois Boat Trip Gallery.
