Tied Houses
The MKEimages.com Architecture Collection has been updated with a new gallery, "Tied Houses". The gallery features images of former Tied Houses located in various neighborhoods in the Milwaukee area. A "tied house" was a type of saloon that was "tied" to a certain brand of beer. The brewery (Blatz, Miller, Pabst, & Schiltz) would help a bar owner set up shop and in exchange the bar would only sell that particular brand of beer. Breweries soon realized that tied houses were a very profitable way to promote their product to the population in the early 1900's.
