MILWAUKEE - MILWAUKEE ART MUSEUM
Located on Lake Michigan, the Milwaukee Art Museum is certaintly
a “one of a kind” building. With its humble beginnings, MAM is a large
part of the culture and is a top destination point in Milwaukee.
One of the most impressive features of the Santiago Calatrava designed
addition for the Milwaukee Art Museum is the 90 foot-high glass-walled
reception hall enclosed by the brise-soleil, an operable sunscreen. The
shade can be opened or closed depending on the weather conditions
creating a unique moving sculpture. Situated on the shores of Lake
Michigan, the museum has to endure the typical Milwaukee weather
extremes. Also, more than 95% of the 915 separate panes of window glass are either tilted, curved, or both creating very unique installation problems.
