MILWAUKEE - GHOST SIGNS
Throughout downtown Milwaukee it would be hard to walk a few blocks without seeing painted advertising on the sides of buildings. These signs are typically called "Ghost Signs". Whether it be for breweries, furniture stores, taverns, or advertising real estate these signs are a big part of our history. Painted directly on building masonry side walls, they are an authentic remant of early 20th century life and record a memory of previous commercial activity and graphic style.
